The Fountain of Youth Found?

April 02, 1513 Spanish Conquistador Juan Ponce de Leon set out an expedition with 200 men to find the legendary Fountain of Youth which was said to have the power to restore the youth of anyone who drinks on bathes in its waters. According to the legend the Spanish heard from the Arawaks (a group of indigenous people from South America) that the fountain of youth was said to be located in the island called Bimini in the Bahamas. Sequene an Arawak chief from Cuba, purportedly was unable to resist the lure of Bimini and its restorative powers. He gathered a troupe of adventurers and sailed north, never to return. Found within the salt water mangrove swamp that covers 6 kilometers of the Shoreline of North Bimini is the healing hole, a pool that lies at the end of the network of winding underground tunnels. During outgoing tides, those channels pump cool, mineral-laden fresh water into the pool rich in calcium and magnesium. Which has been shown to improve longevity and reproductive health.

Fast forward to the present, the year is now 2018 if you want to look for the fountain of youth chances of finding it is zero to none since it was just a myth but of course a lot of us at one time had an imagination what if it existed then surely most of us will not think twice to look for it and swim in it for hours. Then our health problems will be over which I know are costing a lot of families a lot of money. Getting sick these days is very expensive and sadly most of us cannot afford to be sick. But don’t be sad because of most this illnesses and diseases like diabetes, heart problems, stroke and cancer are preventable, what is the answer?

The answer lies within these 3 things:

1)      Proper Diet – Since most of us are busy with our daily grind we tend to eat food that are easy or quick to order hence the word FAST FOOD comes into mind. I met a woman once in one of my seminars, she was introduced to me by one of our associates she was in her late 30's and she had leukemia, I asked what was the cause of this and she said to me “fast food”. She had been working for a company in Manila for 5 years and during those 5 years most of the time she ate in a fast food joint during her lunch and dinner. Sometimes, its no longer important to us to eat quality foods because we just look at the quantity and in the end we pay the price.

2)      Exercise – I read an article a few weeks ago it was entitled “Top 10 Habits You Should Develop on Your 30's and one of them was exercise. The benefits of this are actually astounding. Being active has been shown to have many health benefits, both physically and mentally it can contribute to you living longer. Exercise has been shown to improve your mood and decrease feelings of depression, anxiety and stress. It can help with your weight loss, it is good for your muscles and bones and especially it can reduce your risk of chronic disease according to Arlene Semeco, MS, RD of Healthline.com. So having a regularly physical activity once or twice a week wouldn’t hurt if you wanna live longer.

3)      Proper Supplementation – Yes I know, some of you will agree that is a waste of money. Since you can get all the vitamins and minerals in the food we eat. I myself had the same idea before. In 2002, the American Medical Association (AMA) reversed its long-held anti-vitamin stance and began to encourage all adults to supplement daily with a “multiple” vitamin. A landmark review of 38 years of scientific evidence by Harvard researchers Dr. Robert Fletcher and Kathleen Fairfield convinced the conservative journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) to re-invite its policy guidelines regarding the use of vitamin supplements.
“Insufficient vitamin intake is apparently a cause of chronic diseases. Recent evidence has shown that suboptimal levels of vitamins (below standard), even well above those causing deficiency syndromes, are risk factors for chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and osteoporosis. A large portion of the general population is apparently at increased risk for this reason.”

This is according to Dr. Robert Fletcher and Kathleen Fairfield. This is actually an eye opener for me and for my family as well as taking recommended doses of vitamins and minerals are really essential for long term health. And in a study that I have read that if your body has low levels of vitamins such as Folic Acid, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12 you will increase your risk of developing a heart disease. Decreased levels of Vitamin E and Lycopene will increase your chances of prostate cancer. Low levels of Vitamin A are associated with vision disorders and impaired immune function. Low dietary levels of Vitamin C is associated with increased cancer risk and the list goes on. Pretty scary if it’s the first time you are reading this and since supplementation is very important what kind of vitamins then should we be taking? That has the right amounts of these vitamins and minerals and which has the right quality, bioavailability and also safe for us? Well, to help you guys find out what is the best supplement out there I would recommend this book which you can buy in any National Bookstore or Amazon “NutriSearch Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements” 5th Consumer Edition by Lyle McWilliam. Now I am not connected in any way with this book I just want to give you the right information on what kind of supplements are the best so you can decide what to buy, because I am pretty sure you can’t rely on the supplements that you see on television. So for me, these three things: proper nutrition, exercise and supplementation are the modern day fountain of youth. It won’t help you become immortal but for sure it will decrease your aging process and help you live longer by 5 to 10 years.
